Ne Me Quitte Pas - Nina Simone

Ne me quitte pas
Il faut oublier
Tout peut s'oublier
Qui s'enfuit déjà
Oublier le temps
Des malentendus
Et le temps perdu
A savoir comment
Oublier ces heures
Qui tuaient parfois
A coups de pourquoi
Le coeur du bonheure
Ne me quitte pas
Ne me quitte pas
Ne me quitte pas
Ne me quitte pas

Moi je t'offrirai
Des perles de pluie
Venues de pays
Où il ne pleut pas
Je creuserai la terre
Jusqu'aprè ma mort
Pour couvrir ton corps
D'or et de lumière
Je ferai un domaine
Où l'amour sera roi
Où l'amour sera loi
Où tu seras reine
Ne me quitte pas
Ne me quitte pas
Ne me quitte pas
Ne me quitte pas

Ne me quitte pas
Je t'inventerai
Des mots insensés
Que tu comprendras
Je te parlerai
De ces amants-là
Qui ont vue deux fois
Leurs coeurs s'embraser
Je te racontrai
L'histoire de ce roi
Mort de n'avoir pas
Pu te rencontrer
Ne me quitte pas
Ne me quitte pas
Ne me quitte pas
Ne me quitte pas

On a vu souvent
Rejaillir le feu
De l'ancien volcan
Qu'on croyait trop vieux
Il est paraît-il
Des terres brûlées
Donnant plus de blé
Qu'un meilleur avril
Et quand vient le soir
Pour qu'un ciel flamboie
Le rouge et le noir
Ne s'épousent-ils pas
Ne me quitte pas
Ne me quitte pas
Ne me quitte pas
Ne me quitte pas

Ne me quitte pas
Je ne vais plus pleurer
Je ne vais plus parler
Je me cacherai là
A te regarder
Danser et sourire
Et à t'écouter
Chanter et puis rire
Laisse-moi devenir
L'ombre de ton ombre
L'ombre de ta main
L'ombre de ton chien
Ne me quitte pas
Ne me quitte pas
Ne me quitte pas
Ne me quitte pas

Went to watch Mukhsin last week. There was only 6-7 people inside the cinema, which was great as I could just sit anywhere. From the first minute to the end of the movie, my eyes were glued to the screen, my heart was merely inside it, with Mukhsin.

Frankly, this is my favourite of all Yasmin Ahmad's movies. I watched Rabun on tv3 few years back, but couldn't even register the storyline as it lasted only few minutes (as everybody else wanted to watch other channel). Then Sepet came in. I missed it on the big screen, but I bought the cd and watch it at home. And yes, I fell for Jason just like everybody else. Hehe. Later on, it was Gubra. My least favourite of Yasmin's. Maybe it's just too much for me as I don't really like seeing people's butt on screen. And of too much dirty words exchanged. I seriously couldn't accept that. Nope. Not me. Her movies are great in terms of esthetical values, but morally they are not really appropriate for Malaysian screen. My 2 cents.

And Mukhsin came in as the purest and sincerest movie of all. It has simple plots, fast-moving scenes and great actors/actresses. My favourite scenes would be the one where Orked and her parents were dancing to "Ne me Quitte Pas" while Mukhsin was right outside the house. The expression on Mukhsin's was priceless. The envy, the jelousy, the longing, the sadness, the lost, the love, the frustration, the everything. And that was when I sobbed.

I'm such a sucker for heartrending scenes (tho I always refuse to admit that hahha). As Mukhsin dealt with a lot of emotions, I believe it is the right movie for me to watch (and cry haha) all over again.

If you go away
on this summer day
Then you might as well
take the sun away
All the birds that flew
in the summer sky
When our love was new
and our hearts were high
When the day was young
and the night was long
And the moon stood still
for the nightbird sung
If you go away
If you go away
If you go away
If you go away

But if you stay
I'll make you a day
Like no day has been
or will be again
We'll sail the sun
We'll ride on the rain
We'll talk to the trees
And worship the wind
Then if you go,
I'll understand
Leave me just
enough love
to hold in my hand
If you go away
If you go away
If you go away
If you go away

If you go away
as I know you will
You must tell the world
to stop turning till
You return again
if you ever do
For what good is love
without loving you
I can tell you now
as you turn to go
I'll be dying slowly
till the next hello
If you go away
If you go away
If you go away

But if you stay
I'll make you a night
Like no night has been
or will be again
I'll sail on your smile
I'll ride on your touch
I'll talk to your eyes
that I love so much
But if you go
I won't cry
Though the good is gone
from the world. Goodbye
If you go away
If you go away
If you go away
If you go away

If you go away
as I know you must
There'll be nothing left
in the world to trust
Just an empty room
Full of empty space
Like that empty look
I see on your face
I'd have been the shadow
of your shadow
If I had thought it might
have kept me by your side
If you go away
If you go away
If you go away
Please don't go away.

Bismillahirahmannirrahim.

Terasa macam merentas masa pula. Setiap sudut, setiap celah bangunan, setiap kerusi, setiap jalan, semuanya menyimpan kenangan. Saat mula melangkah masuk, beribu rasa melanda. Gugup, gembira, curiga, sayu, sebak...semuanya ada.

Pak guard skarang lenientnyer, tak check langsung matric card. Semuanya muda-muda. Teringat zaman diktatorship Hamzah hahaha. Zaman pemerintahan kuku besi Hamzah yang kejam, yang tak pernah sudah menyusahkan hidup. :) Sekarang dah tak ada pak guard gila glemer macam tu. Sekarang pak guards lebih layak dipanggil abang guard. Hehehe.

Gate oh gate! Inilah gate yang pernah jadi the 8th wonders of the world... hahaha.. miraclenya kerana gate tu dengan magicnya dibina dalam masa satu minggu... kejarkan official visit dari Dr. M waktu tu.. hahaha...

Statue Iqra' masih di situ. Cuma warnanya dah makin kelabu. Makin uzur. Tangga besar pun masih gah berdiri.

Nampak posters banyak sekali. ELITE registration for BENL students. Hmm.. during my time, it was known as ELC, not ELITE. then I started to remember all the terms that we once used to refer to the courses.. Elite stands for kelas English Literature kan, kelas Amlit and Shakespeare dengan Jalut, kelas Islit, Worldlit, kelas Error, MSL, Research, Discourse with Adrian and kelas Writing dan Computer ngan Mazlan hahaha.. memories.. :)

Aku lupa bilik Subra tingkat berapa. Setengah jam pusing-pusing sampai habis cair make-up haha. Lencun baju. Sudahnya turun tanya budak benl yang jaga kaunter. He looked confused.. hahaha.. as I asked him where Subra's room is.. and he answered.. ohh.. near Dr Adrian's.. haha.. aku tau .. aku pun ingat bilik dia dengan dgn bilik Adrian, bila Normala, bilik Jalut, bilik Nora, bilik Umar... aku ingat.. cuma aku tak ingat kat mana. Punyalah lama tak pergi boleh sesat di uia sendiri.

After a long walk, we reached Subra's room but he's not there. There's a note saying he's in the Writing Lab, tapi disebabkan aku tak ingat/tahu pun kat mana jadahnya lab tu.. aku terkial2 depan bilik dia. And suddenly, I saw a very familiar figure. Mahmud. My Bangladeshi research partner hahaha! . :) So I called him excitedly," MAHMUD? Is that you?" Hahaha. Sebab dia dah berjambang penuh jadi memang mula-mula tak kenal dia. He was talking to an unfamiliar lady (lecturer perhaps) , and when I yelled MAHMUD tu, the lady lecturer replied spontaneously - "Its Dr. Mahmud now. He just finished his Phd."

Of course I was shocked hahaha. The last time we met he was doing his Masters, and I just finished my degree. Zaman World Cup 2002 di Korea/Japan. Teringat2 lagi dia selalu perli aku pasa Itali asyik kalah (and he was supporting Brazil) hehehe. Mahmud yang aku baru jumpa ni lain sikitlah. Tak gila-gila macam dulu lagi. Lebih serious, lebih matang. Cakap pun memang dah grown up la. Aku je tak hahaha. We exchanged stories, lepas tu dia ajak aku turun cari Subra kat writing lab, dia tunjukkan jalan. Nasib baik jumpa dia!

When we reached the writing lab, Subra was still busy with his students, so we went into the department (beside the lab still), an waited for him there. Aku tanya mahmud kak eda (admin kat dept) kerja lagi ke kat situ? Dia cakap.. yang sekarang ni dah 4th generation after Kak Eda left.. and I was like... SERIOUSLY? Aiyyoh. Never felt this old hahaha. Lima tahun beb tak masuk DELL.

Then I went to see Subra at the lab. Hmm.. the first thing I noticed was that he had lots of grey hair. Hmm.. . He was excited to see me, I told him tita sends regards (hahahah... said that to keep the conversation going hahhaha) and he started asking about everyone. He asked about Tita, and Eda. I think those are the only names he remembered kot hahahha.

Then, while waiting for Subra to finish filling in the reference form, Mazlan came into the lab. Yes, THE bro. Mazlan. The one who's always wearing the red songkok. He's still wearing the songkok (I suspiciously thought it was the same songkok, still!) . Say hi to him, but I think he didn't even recognise me :)

So mission accomplished then. I got Subra's reference, got to see lots of good old faces again and the best part of all, managed to nearly burst tears all over again - which was really sux considering I felt the same every time I stepped into the alma mater.

*sigh*

I owe this entry to a begging friend who can't wait to read about this memorable journey (since the past 2 weeks) hehe.
